Do you do double glazing?
Yes we do double glazing in our W40 and W50 TB suites which can accommodate for a minimum of 22mm IGU.
Where are your doors and windows manufactured?
All our steel products are manufactured in New Zealand.
Can I buy direct from your company?
Yes you can! You don’t have to be an interior designer or an architect to buy steel windows and doors. Just make sure you have an installer or builder present to install your frames. If you don’t have an installer or builder, contact us on 09 377 3888 or email enquiry@steelwindowsanddoors.co.nz to find out how we can help.
What size steel doors and windows can you make?
External units are restricted to certain sizes for example if the wind zones are above very high. A majority of our units are under 2.7m x 1.2m per sash, however we can accommodate for larger sizes, please contact us for any larger units. Internal units generally don't have the same restrictions.
What types of doors and windows do you do?
We regularly make hinged, pivot and sliding doors as well as side hung, awning and sliding windows. We tend to stay away from bifold systems as the hardware in bifolds is a lot more unreliable than any of the other systems because they are top hung and bottom guided.
What dictates the pricing in terms of design?
Generally, the more complex the design, for example more glazing bars (mullions) means more labour in welding and materials etc therefore the more panes (lights) the more expensive the unit.
Can I edit my project details once I have submitted them?
Depends on how far along the process you are. If you are editing them before manufacturing and fabrication begins then we may be able to edit them. Bear in mind there may be an additional charge if we have to recreate shop drawings based on your revised project details.
Can I upload images of my room or designs?
Yes you can do so when sending us your request or when getting a quote.
Where are you located?
We are located at 33 Randolph Street, Eden Terrace, Auckland 1010.
How does the price compare to aluminium joinery?
The price of steel joinery is significantly more than aluminium because of the labour content involved, each joint needs to be welded and sanded and finished manually by hand whereas aluminium is often just screwed and glued together. Additionally, because of the bespoke nature of the profiles they are rarely available and are costly to make.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we do make units for delivery nationwide from Northland to Otago.
Do you do fire doors?
We are currently in the process of getting a suite ready for fire testing.
Steel vs. aluminium, what’s the difference?
Steel is generally 3x stronger than aluminium and less likely to deform or bend under weight, force or heat- making it resistant to different types of weather conditions.
What types of glass can we have?
We can accommodate for a wide variety of single glazed glass, safety glass where it is required by regulations. So that includes toughened, laminated, decorative such as broad reeded or other types. In double glazing we can do any type of combination that you would normally see in other types of joinery such as low E and argon filled if required.

Why is steel joinery so expensive?
The cost of steel joinery comes from the process as a whole, the materials are imported and cannot be made here, then the labour content is 2-3 times higher than aluminium and obviously because steel is a ferrous metal the corrosion protection process is far more extensive with usually a 4 stage process to protect the carbon steel from rusting.
Can you have steel joinery in coastal areas?
Yes, steel joinery can be used in coastal areas, our units go through a rigorous 4 stage corrosion protection process in order to prevent any rust. Obviously, like anything, it won’t last as long in a harsh coastal environment compared to an inland, low wind zone area so will require more maintenance just like your cladding and roofing that are also exposed to the salt water.
How thick are the profiles?
Depending on what suite you are going for, the profiles range from 22mm - 50mm with the W20 being the slimmest and the W50 TB being the largest.
What is the price of the door hardware?
We have a selection of options that we use regularly but until the job hardware is specified, we cannot quote on it. All standard items such as hinges, rollers and tracks are included.
Do you have a warranty?
All our steel products are designed to stand the test of time and backed by a 15-year durability warranty. For more information about our warranty, check out our terms and conditions.
